What is X3-SYSEX ?

X3-SYSEX is a program to create the .exl file normally used by the Korg X3 to send and save MIDI System Exclusive Data. Since the X3 puts a header in front of the saved SYSEX data, this program is nessassary if you wish to import previously saved SYSEX data to the X3 for easy transmitting from the x3.

Requirements of X3-SYSEX

  1. Choose a directory to put X3-SYSEX. (INSTALL X3-SYSEX) It will make your life easier if you place the program in some directory that is part of the path. If you dont and the .pcg files are not in the same directory - you will have to supply the full-path of where the .pcg files are. I put my copy in my c:\util directory which I made to be able to toss small utils into one place. This allows me to have the .pcg files in my midi directory. You decide what is easiest for your situation.

  2. Now your set to run X3-SYSEX !
How do I create a new .exl file with X3-SYSEX ?
  3. Run X3-SYSEX: Give X3-SYSEX the file name you want it to generate the .exl file for. i.e. X3-SYSEX D50ANLG.SYS
  4. Enjoy your newly generated file. The file name will be the same as the SYSEX file you gave it. So if you gave it D50ANLG.SYS as the name, then the output file will be named D50ANLG.exl . Now place this on a floppy for the x3 and your set !

Thats it!

But I use Windows! (Whine)

Alright you crybaby - you can run it from a windows shell. You can even associate the program in the File Manager to .D50 - or whatever you are using for SYSEX data files like .syx Every time you double click on that type of file - X3-SYSEX is run and creates the output for you. Just run file-manager and click on the file type. Then click on File/Asscociate file... and Browse to find the X3-SYSEX.EXE file. Click OK and your set. :)

What about a patch editor for the X3 ?

Well eventually I plan on getting a full patch editor up and running but that might take a while. :)

So what do I owe you for using X3-SYSEX ?

X3-SYSEX is Patch-Ware. If you like X3-SYSEX then send me some patches! :) You can email them to me at jonin@netcom.com or you can use the X3 FTP at ftp.netcom.com at the /pub/jonin/incoming area.
